As per the NEJM latest report Transient Smartphone “Blindness” is symptoms that occurred only after several minutes of viewing a smartphone screen, in the dark, while lying in bed (before going to sleep in the first case and after waking in the second).

This symptoms mentioned in the report after observation of two women 's eye as they reported some issues in their eyes. Both patients were asked to experiment and record their symptoms. They reported that the symptoms were always in the eye contralateral to the side on which the patient was lying.

Mostly we check our phones in bed either at night or morning. When we lay on one side, our one eye could be covered with pillow or mattress so it is closed and we watch our smart phone screen from other eye which is opened. Due to which one eye retina is covered and other eye retina is on phone screen that too in the dark. That is why, temporary vision loss in the eye which is used for watching the phone screen can happen.

It can happen to any age group. And either we face this temporary blindness or not is also not sure. But health is wealth. We should take precautions to avoid such incidents. We should not watch or phone screen in the dark and make sure that you are using both eyes to watch the screen.
